Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, a sudden hailstorm has caused significant damage to orchards in Bandipora and parts of south Kashmir, raising concerns among growers about potential losses during the crucial flowering stage.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, the hailstorm struck several areas, damaging blossoms and leaves at a time when fruit crops were in the sensitive \u201cfull bloom\u201d and \u201cpink bud\u201d stages. Officials claimed the damage remains below the threshold for compensation, downplaying its impact.<\/p>\n

However, local farmers and observers said the timing of the hailstorm could have a serious effect on fruit yield, as damage to blossoms directly reduces fruit formation, leading to financial losses for growers. They warned that continued erratic weather and lack of timely support may further aggravate the situation.<\/p>\n

The growers also expressed concern over the absence of a robust crop insurance mechanism and adequate government response, saying it leaves them vulnerable to repeated weather shocks.
