Hyderabad: A group of cattle traders was brutally attacked by self-appointed Hindu groups, commonly known as cow vigilantes, in Hyderabad\u2019s Tukkuguda area in India\u2019s Telangana state, with victims saying that police present at the scene failed to intervene effectively to stop the assault.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, the incident occurred under the limits of the Pahadi Shareef Police Station, where a vehicle transporting cattle was stopped by a mob.<\/p>\n
The traders said that they were transporting 14 oxen from Mallepally to a local weekly market when they were intercepted at a junction by a group of armed men. \u201cWe were stopped at the chowrastha by around 100-150 men carrying sticks, rods and other weapons, and they started attacking us without any warning,\u201d said one of the injured people in a video.<\/p>\n
The victims maintained that they had all necessary documents for transporting the animals. \u201cEven after producing the permission papers, we were not spared,\u201d said another person.<\/p>\n
The victims said that the attackers chased them as they attempted to flee, continuing the assault. One of the drivers suffered a fractured finger, while the vehicle used for transportation was extensively damaged. The traders estimated their losses at approximately INR 6 lakh, citing damage to both the vehicle and the cattle.<\/p>\n
The victims also said the police failed to act in time. They said that officers present at the scene did not take adequate steps to stop the assault, allowing the attackers to continue even as the traders attempted to flee.<\/p>\n
A complaint has been lodged at the Pahadi Shareef Police Station.<\/p>\n
However, Station House Officer B. Lakshmi Narayana Reddy downplayed the scale of the attack, stating that only three to four individuals were involved.
