New Delhi: Fresh tension has been reported in the volatile Uttam Nagar area of the Indian capital after tridents were distributed among youths during a programme earlier this week.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, the trident event, organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), happened on April 12, days after the area had begun returning to normal following the killing of a young man during a Holi dispute.<\/p>\n
The earlier incident took place on March 4, when a clash between two families from different communities led to the death of Tarun Khatik. Police had said that the involved persons were arrested soon after, and the situation had slowly started to calm down.<\/p>\n
However, a recent gathering organised in Hastsal\u2019s Ayyappa Park has again raised concern among locals. According to reports, around 1,700 tridents were distributed during the event, which organisers described as a \u201cTrishul Deeksha\u201d programme.<\/p>\n
Organisers said the event was meant to spread a message of \u201cservice, values and safety.\u201d A member associated with the programme said, \u201cThis is a cultural and religious activity. It is not aimed at any community.\u201d<\/p>\n
But several residents and observers have expressed worry about the timing and nature of the event, especially as it was held close to the area where the earlier violence took place.<\/p>\n
A resident said, \u201cThe area had just started becoming normal. Such programmes create fear again, especially among minority families.\u201d<\/p>\n
Independent reports have claimed that strong language was used from the stage, though no official confirmation has been issued by the police so far.<\/p>\n
