Imphal: Indian forces\u2019 personnel fired teargas shells on protesters in violence-hit BJP-ruled Manipur, as tensions escalated during an ongoing wave of unrest in the state.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, tension gripped parts of Imphal East after Indian army and paramilitary forces fired teargas shells on participants of a torch rally held at Khurai Lamlong.<\/p>\n

The rally was organised by the All Manipur United Clubs\u2019 Organisation along with like-minded groups as part of continuing protests following the recent violence in the state. A large number of women protesters from different areas of Imphal East participated in the march, raising anti-India and anti-armed forces\u2019 slogans and expressing their resolve to protect their land and identity.<\/p>\n

The torch rally at Khurai Lamlong Bazaar turned chaotic when protesters attempted to break through police barricades. Indian forces deployed there responded with teargas shelling to disperse the protesters.<\/p>\n

Manipur has remained on edge since the 2023 ethnic violence between the Hindu-majority Meitei and Christian-majority Kuki-Zo communities, which left more than 260 people dead, most of them Christians.
