New Delhi: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Parliament, Rahul Gandhi, said that the BJP government is advancing its dubious agenda under the guise of three bills presented in the House. He termed the Women\u2019s Reservation Bill merely a showpiece and said it has nothing to do with empowering women.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, Rahul Gandhi, while participating in the debate on these bills in the parliament, said the BJP government is attempting to change India\u2019s electoral map under the cover of women\u2019s rights. He noted that the Women\u2019s Reservation Bill had already been passed in 2023 and added that the opposition would support it if the earlier version was restored.<\/p>\n
He further said that the women\u2019s quota is being used to bypass caste-based census demands and to deprive other Backward Classes of their rightful representation in the parliament, calling it a shameful act. He said the government is using women\u2019s reservation as a political instrument rather than a genuine empowerment measure.<\/p>\n
Rahul Gandhi said the government is actually seeking to weaken women\u2019s political empowerment, adding that the BJP is afraid due to its declining political strength and is therefore attempting to reshape the country\u2019s political landscape.<\/p>\n
Referring to the delimitation bill, he said it would reduce the representation of southern India, reiterating that the Congress firmly opposes these bills.<\/p>\n
It is worth mentioning that the Women\u2019s Reservation Bill was rejected the previous day due to the absence of a two-thirds majority.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi said that reservation for women in parliament and state assemblies is a fundamental right of Indian women and cannot be denied. She said Prime Minister Narendra Modi of falsely projecting himself as a champion of women\u2019s rights while linking the bill to the 2011 census and delimitation process.<\/p>\n
She said the opposition demonstrated unity in parliament and protected the integrity of the country, adding that efforts to suppress voices would no longer succeed.<\/p>\n
Priyanka Gandhi further thanked all opposition members of Parliament, saying that had the bill been passed in its current form, democracy would not have survived in the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
