United Nations : Pakistan\u2019s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Asim Iftikhar has submitted a letter to the UN against India, expressing strong reservations over India\u2019s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, the letter states that India\u2019s unilateral actions are a threat to regional peace and security and the Security Council should intervene and make India implement its international obligations.<\/p>\n
The letter draws the attention of the Security Council to the fact that India\u2019s illegal decision to keep the Indus Waters Treaty suspended for a year is having serious peace, security and humanitarian consequences.<\/p>\n
The Security Council has been called upon to take notice of this alarming situation and urge India to immediately restore full implementation of the treaty, resume data sharing and refrain from using water as a weapon.<\/p>\n
Asim Iftikhar informed the President of the Security Council that at a time when Pakistan is engaged in serious mediation efforts to promote regional and international peace and security, baseless allegations and propaganda are being repeated by India.<\/p>\n
He said the unresolved dispute of Jammu and Kashmir, which is a long-pending issue on the agenda of the Security Council, is the root cause of instability in South Asia and the just and lasting solution of which is indispensable in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions and the will of the Kashmiri people. Asim Iftikhar Ahmed also handed over a letter written by Deputy Prime Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar regarding the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty to the President of the United Nations Security Council, Ambassador of Bahrain, Jamal Faris Al-Ruwaii.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
