Srinagar: In yet another assault on freedom of expression in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Indian police have registered a case against Peoples Democratic Party leader Iltija Mufti over social media content featuring the late veteran Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Gilani.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, the case was initiated after a video posted on X by Iltija Mufti featuring the martyred pro-freedom leader came to the attention of Indian authorities.<\/p>\n
They said FIR No. 11 has been registered under Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to acts threatening the \u201csovereignty, unity, and integrity of India.\u201d<\/p>\n
Officials further stated that unidentified persons have also been included in the FIR for sharing and amplifying the content online.<\/p>\n
Cyber Police has taken up further investigation to determine the intent and extent of circulation of the video.<\/p>\n
Rights observers said the FIR against Iltija Mufti \u2014 daughter of Mehbooba Mufti \u2014 lays bare the deepening clampdown on free speech in the disputed territory, where even sharing videos of revered Kashmiri leaders is criminalized under draconian laws. They said New Delhi is using its police and agencies to silence all dissenting voices in IIOJK, turning the territory into a digital prison where political expression, journalism, and even social media posts are punished to stifle the Kashmiris\u2019 narrative.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
