Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, amid ongoing hardships faced by Kashmiris due to heavy militarization and intensified operations, so-called security measures have been further tightened along the Srinagar-Jammu Highway under the pretext of ensuring smooth movement of official convoys during the annual Darbar Move.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, offices in Jammu closed on April 30, and official functioning is scheduled to resume in Srinagar from May 4.<\/p>\n
Additional Indian forces\u2019 personnel have been deployed at key locations along the highway. Enhanced surveillance, vehicle checking and area domination exercises are underway in several areas. Many stretches, particularly in Ramban and Banihal sectors, are under close watch, with quick response teams positioned for emergency situations.<\/p>\n
Restrictions under the pretext of security have also been tightened across the south Kashmir districts, where intensified patrolling and frisking operations are being carried out in multiple areas.<\/p>\n
A detailed traffic advisory has been issued, with restrictions on the movement of heavy and medium motor vehicles. The curbs are enforced in both directions\u2014between Jakheni, Udhampur, Ramban, Banihal and Srinagar, as well as Qazigund towards Banihal and Ramban. Restrictions have also been imposed on goods carriers. Transporters, particularly those dealing with perishable goods and livestock, have been asked to plan their movement accordingly to avoid inconvenience.<\/p>\n
While the authorities claim elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure the safe and uninterrupted movement of officials, employees and official records during the Darbar Move, local residents and commuters are facing significant difficulties. The restrictions on civilians and transport movement have further added to the hardships of the besieged population of Kashmir.<\/p>\n
It is noteworthy that the Darbar Move is a longstanding administrative tradition of Jammu and Kashmir, under which the capital shifts every six months between Srinagar in summer and Jammu in winter. The practice was introduced in 1872 by Dogra ruler Maharaja Ranbir Singh and involves the relocation of the civil secretariat, government offices, and official records. The system was abolished in 2021 by the administration under New Delhi-appointed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, but was restored in 2025.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
