Kolkata: The political atmosphere in the Indian state of West Bengal has reached its peak ahead of vote counting scheduled for May 4.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, the state assembly elections were held in two phases on April 23 and 29. Intense war of words and rising ground-level tensions continue between the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).<\/p>\n

The controversy has centred on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and the security of strong rooms. The TMC has said that ballot boxes and EVMs stored in strong rooms in Kolkata are being tampered with.<\/p>\n

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee personally visited the Saif Khan Memorial School, where EVMs of the Bhabanipur assembly constituency are kept. Speaking to media persons afterwards, she levelled serious allegations against the BJP.<\/p>\n

Issuing a strong warning, she said that if any attempt is made to tamper with the counting process, she would strongly resist it and would not allow such actions to succeed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
