Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, in a bid to sever Kashmiris\u2019 links with their past and Hinduize them culturally, the Modi regime has replaced the administrative setup of dozens of confiscated schools linked to Jamaat-e-Islami, further tightening its control over educational institutions in the territory.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Delhi-installed administration has earlier taken over 58 more private schools associated with Jamaat-e-Islami and its Falah-e-Aam Trust, officials confirmed. Most schools are located in north Kashmir. The move follows an earlier takeover of 215 FAT-affiliated schools in August 2025.<\/p>\n
FAT once ran 350 schools across the occupied territory before it was declared unlawful in 1990. Nearly 60,000 students and 4,000 staff are enrolled in the network.<\/p>\n
The takeover has drawn criticism from political and Hurriyat circles, who view it as part of a wider campaign to target Muslim-run educational institutions in IIOJK.<\/p>\n
Jamaat-e-Islami was banned by India in 2019 under draconian law UAPA, with the ban extended in 2024.<\/p>\n
Deputy Commissioners will now run the schools and form new, possibly Hindutva, committees.<\/p>\n
The decision has also sparked differences within the local political setup, after Education Minister Sakeena Itoo earlier accused the Indian bureaucracy of altering takeover orders.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
