Islamabad: Altaf Hussain Wani, Chairman of Kashmir Institute of International Relations, has urged the UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief to stop the \u201csystematic and selective targeting\u201d of educational and religious institutions in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, in a communication to Special Rapporteur Nazila Ghanea, Wani expressed concern over Jamia Siraj-ul-Uloom being declared \u201cunlawful\u201d under UAPA, disrupting studies of nearly 1,000 students forced to quit mid-session. He said the seminary has long produced doctors, scholars and IT professionals.<\/p>\n

Wani noted that since 2019, hundreds of Falah-e-Aam Trust schools have been closed by occupation authorities under UAPA, hitting poor communities hardest. He also flagged structural changes after adoption of NCERT-aligned curriculum.<\/p>\n

Citing international covenants protecting religious education, Wani urged the UN to call on India to cease selective targeting, ensure rights to religion and education, and reverse measures harming students. \u201cThe continued closure and takeover of such institutions undermines fundamental freedoms and places the educational future of thousands at risk,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
