According to Kashmir Media Service, the deceased was identified as Khademul Islam, 25, a resident of the Bonchowki border area, said Lieutenant Colonel Mehedi Imam, commanding officer of Lalmonirhat BGB-15 Battalion.<\/p>\n
The incident took place near sub-pillar No 6 of the 905 main border pillar in Amjhol area, around 150 yards inside Indian territory, he said.<\/p>\n
According to the BGB official, Khademul and 10 to 12 others crossed near the barbed-wire fence inside Indian territory late last night to bring cattle from India. At that time, members of the Paglamari BSF camp under the 78 BSF Battalion in West Bengal\u2019s Cooch Behar district opened fire.<\/p>\n
\u201cKhademul suffered bullet injuries to his hand, back and face. His companions quickly brought him back to Bangladesh. He was taken to a private hospital in Rangpur city that same night for treatment, where he later died,\u201d the BGB commander said.<\/p>\n
His family later brought the body home.<\/p>\n
However, Khademul\u2019s father, Amzad Hossain, claimed that his son was not involved in cattle smuggling.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy son used to catch fish in local water bodies. He had gone to catch fish near the border. Perhaps someone persuaded him to go near the barbed-wire fence.
