Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has paid glowing tributes to prominent freedom leader and his father, Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq, and the Hawal martyrs, and announced a series of programs to mark their martyrdom anniversaries.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq was shot dead by unknown gunmen at his residence in Srinagar on May 21, 1990. On the same day, Indian troops opened indiscriminate fire on his funeral procession in the Hawal area of Srinagar, martyring 70 innocent Kashmiris.<\/p>\n
Addressing Friday congregational prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said the commemorative programs will begin on May 18 and conclude on May 21 with a prayer gathering at the Martyrs\u2019 Graveyard in Eidgah, Srinagar.<\/p>\n
He said that although 36 years have passed since the martyrdom of Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq, his memory, legacy, and immense services to the people continue to remain deeply alive in the hearts and minds of the Kashmiris. Recalling the Hawal massacre, he said that the tragedy remains among the most painful chapters in the contemporary history of Kashmir and continues to evoke deep sorrow and emotion among the people.<\/p>\n
Giving details of the commemorative programs, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that on Monday, May 18, a Qur\u2019an recitation, prayer gathering, and Qira\u2019at competition will be held at the historic Jamia Masjid, Srinagar. On Tuesday, May 19, a blood donation camp will be organized at Ganj Bakhsh Park, Nowhatta. On Wednesday, May 20, a seminar titled \u201cHolistic Education for a Healthy Society: Nurturing the Mind and Body\u201d will be held at the main auditorium of Islamia Higher Secondary School, Rajouri Kadal. He said the programs will conclude on Thursday, May 21, with a prayer and commemorative gathering at the Martyrs\u2019 Graveyard, Eidgah Srinagar.<\/p>\n
Mirwaiz expressed hope that the authorities will not create any impediments or restrictions regarding the observance of the martyrdom events and will allow people to peacefully pay homage to their beloved leader and the martyrs of Hawal.<\/p>\n
