It is pertinent to mention that NalinPrabhat, a non-Kashmiri officer, is regarded in Kashmir as a symbol of the RSS/BJP’s hardline security policy, which, Kashmir watchers say has deepened fear and repression through killings, arrests, raids, and human rights abuses.

The Hurriyat leaders, in their statements, described IIOJK DGP’s remarks as part of India’s long-standing campaign to malign Pakistan and undermine Kashmir’s indigenous freedom movement. They said the Kashmiri people’s struggle is a legitimate and internationally recognized movement for the right to self-determination, as guaranteed under relevant United Nations resolutions, and cannot be discredited through propaganda and baseless accusations.

They said linking the Kashmiri’ freedom movement with terrorism and drug trafficking is a deliberate attempt to divert global attention from the grim ground realities in IIOJK, where Indian forces continue to subject the local population to repression, arbitrary arrests, and widespread human rights abuses.

The Hurriyat leaders said Indian authorities have increasingly used anti-terror and anti-drug operations as a cover to intensify crackdowns on civilians, including cordon and search operations, raids, property attachments, preventive detentions, and harassment of youth across the occupied territory.

They maintained that such accusations cannot weaken the resolve of the Kashmiri people, who have rendered immense sacrifices in pursuit of their internationally recognized right to decide their political future.

Rejecting the allegations against Pakistan, the leaders said Islamabad has consistently extended political, diplomatic, and moral support to the Kashmir cause and has always advocated a peaceful resolution of the dispute in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and the relevant UN resolutions.

They urged the international community and international human rights organizations to take serious note of India’s continued attempts to criminalize the Kashmiris’ freedom movement and suppress dissent through fear and coercion.

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), Hurriyat leaders and pro-freedom organizations have strongly dismissed the allegations made by India-appointed Director General of Police (DGP) NalinPrabhat.
