New Delhi: Political tensions are mounting in India over a proposed constitutional amendment and fresh delimitation plans, amid growing concerns that the BJP-led Indian government is seeking to shift political power toward northern states while politically marginalizing the country\u2019s southern regions.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, political observers say people in southern India are expressing serious reservations about the proposes census and delimitation exercise, fearing it could reduce their parliamentary representation and pave the way for the imposition of northern cultural dominance.<\/p>\n
Observers say the southern states are effectively being punished despite their better performance in economic development, population control, and social indicators. They warn that while the politically influential but less-developed northern states are likely to gain greater representation, the move could significantly weaken the political voice of the south and strengthen the BJP\u2019s electoral advantage.<\/p>\n
Analysts argue that the BJP-led government, which derives much of its political support from Hindi-speaking northern regions, is using delimitation as a tool to consolidate power in the north while penalizing southern states for not backing the party politically.<\/p>\n
