{"id":201791,"date":"2026-05-29T09:49:50","date_gmt":"2026-05-29T04:49:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kmsnews.org\/kms\/?p=201791"},"modified":"2026-05-29T09:49:50","modified_gmt":"2026-05-29T04:49:50","slug":"wangchuk-rejects-ladakh-lgs-claims-reaffirms-support-to-cockroach-janta-party","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kmsnews.org\/kms\/2026\/05\/29\/wangchuk-rejects-ladakh-lgs-claims-reaffirms-support-to-cockroach-janta-party.html","title":{"rendered":"Wangchuk rejects Ladakh LG\u2019s claims, reaffirms support to \u2018Cockroach Janta Party\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-201794\" src=\"https:\/\/kmsnews.org\/kms\/assests\/2026\/05\/Wangchuk.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"361\" height=\"207\" \/><\/p>\n<p>New Delhi: Renowned Ladakh-based climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has asserted that he considers himself an \u201chonorary cockroach,\u201d as he rejected Ladakh Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena\u2019s claim that he was \u201cunsure\u201d of the online movement\u2019s origins.<\/p>\n<p>According to Kashmir Media Service, the remark came in response to a post by LG VK Saxena on Tuesday, following a meeting with Wangchuk and his wife and HIAL co-founder Gitanjali J Angmo.<\/p>\n<p>The LG, in a post on X, said he cautioned Wangchuk against \u201cweaving a misleading and provocative narrative\u201d and claimed that the activist had accepted that comparing Ladakh with Manipur was an \u201cerror of judgement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Saxena also claimed Wangchuk was unsure about the origins of the Cockroach Janata Party, or CJP, and would \u201cstudy the motivations of its founders and revisit his stand, if necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rejecting the assertions, Wangchuk said that the meeting had been cordial and did not resemble the tone reflected in the LG\u2019s public remarks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Ladakh LG invited us for some meeting over a cup of tea. We spent nearly an hour in a cordial and friendly atmosphere discussing his initiatives, our work and possibilities of collaboration,\u201d Wangchuk said.<\/p>\n<p>He said Saxena raised his recent comments comparing Ladakh with Manipur and his support for the Cockroach Janta Party, but the interaction, Wangchuk said, did not carry any warning or reprimand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne hour after we left, we were surprised, and not very pleasantly, to see that he had tweeted in a tone as if he had censured us or cautioned us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Wangchuk said he believed the public messaging may have been intended to satisfy political expectations elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought this was maybe to please some boss somewhere in Delhi who had instructed him to call me up and say such things, but the meeting was none like this, only the tweet was,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The educationist said he deliberately refrained from reacting immediately to what he called \u201cchildish behaviour\u201d, and chose to respond only on the third day after the remarks appeared in several newspapers.<\/p>\n<p>He also rubbished the LG\u2019s claim on the Manipur comparison and said he never described the analogy as an \u201cerror of judgment.\u201d \u201cI don\u2019t think it is an error of my judgment.
