Hyderabad: Indian parliamentarian and President of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Asaduddin Owaisi, has condemned increasing attacks on Muslims and efforts to marginalise the community and reduce them to second-class citizens in India.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking at the AIMIM headquarters in Hyderabad, Owaisi while referring to debates around Muslims offering namaz on roads, said that if offering namaz on public roads is considered unacceptable, then the same standard should apply to religious celebrations and processions of all faiths held on public streets. He said that religious activities by all communities should be treated equally under the law.<\/p>\n
\u201cRemember Article 25. If offering namaz on roads is wrong, then festivals of every religion on roads are also wrong,\u201d he said, referring to the constitutional provision guaranteeing freedom of religion.<\/p>\n
He also questioned why objections are raised against Muslims praying in public spaces while religious processions and yatras blocking roads are often allowed. He said religious festivals and events of different faiths frequently take place on public roads across India.<\/p>\n
The AIMIM chief further said that if authorities demand closure of meat shops during festivals of one community, similar restrictions should apply universally. \u201cIf you say meat shops should be closed during someone\u2019s festival, then all liquor shops should be closed for 30 days during Ramzan,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Owaisi also said that television channels were focusing on issues like namaz on roads while ignoring concerns such as the distress faced by parents over examination controversies like the NEET paper leak.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
