According to Kashmir Media Service, Sardar Masood Khan speaking in a television interview expressed confidence that sustained engagement and pragmatic diplomacy could lead to the successful conclusion of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) currently under discussion.<\/p>\n
He said that the present phase should not be viewed as a tactical pause before renewed hostilities, but rather as a serious diplomatic effort aimed at ending escalation and establishing a framework for lasting engagement between Washington and Tehran. He noted that Pakistan has been working tirelessly to bridge differences, convey messages between the two capitals, and create the trust necessary for meaningful negotiations.<\/p>\n
He remarked that Pakistan\u2019s role has gone beyond communication, helping both sides identify common ground and encouraging flexibility at a time when rigid positions could derail the entire process. He described the task as exceptionally challenging given the adversarial relationship that has existed between the United States and Iran for nearly five decades.<\/p>\n
Masood Khan observed that while public statements from both sides often include threats and warnings, these should be understood within the broader context of negotiations. He noted that President Donald Trump frequently combines conciliatory messages with strong rhetoric as part of his negotiating style, while Iran also seeks to demonstrate its capability and resolve in order to strengthen its bargaining position.<\/p>\n
Discussing the major issues under negotiation, he said that sequencing remains one of the most sensitive challenges. Iran expects the removal of the US naval blockade and other confidence-building measures, while the United States seeks assurances regarding freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. He added that substantive discussions on Iran\u2019s nuclear programme are expected to follow only after initial agreements on de-escalation are reached.<\/p>\n
Sardar Masood Khan further stated that questions relating to sanctions relief, frozen Iranian assets, maritime security, and post-war regional stability remain under discussion. He emphasized that any sustainable agreement must be accompanied by a broader regional security framework capable of rebuilding confidence among Gulf states and restoring economic stability across the region.<\/p>\n
Highlighting Pakistan\u2019s diplomatic efforts, Ambassador Masood Khan said that Islamabad has successfully brought the two interlocutors together for direct engagement despite decades of hostility and mistrust.<\/p>\n
He described this achievement as a significant diplomatic milestone and noted that Pakistan continues to work closely with regional and international partners, including China and other key stakeholders, to support a negotiated settlement.<\/p>\n
