Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti has urged parties in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir to set aside differences and forge a united platform for a political dialogue with New Delhi, saying engagement is the only way to resolve the territory\u2019s political issues.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, addressing a press conference in Srinagar, Mehbooba Mufti cited the example of Ladakh, where leaders from Leh and Kargil worked together despite regional and religious differences and continued to pursue constitutional safeguards related to land and employment rights.<\/p>\n
She urged political parties in IIOJK, particularly the ruling National Conference, to revive a collective political approach similar to the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), arguing that a united front could help create space for renewed political engagement with New Delhi.<\/p>\n
Mufti maintained that even during periods of heightened uprising, attempts were made to keep channels of communication open.<\/p>\n
Mehbooba criticized the absence of political outreach following the Assembly elections, saying people expected their elected representatives to advocate for the restoration of political rights and dignity rather than confining governance to developmental matters alone. She stressed that roads, electricity and water cannot substitute for political reconciliation and meaningful engagement.<\/p>\n
Expressing concern over growing alienation, particularly among youth, Mufti called for confidence-building measures and urged the authorities to reduce the presence of Indian forces in civilian areas.
