Srinagar : In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference senior leader and Indian parliament member from Srinagar, Agha Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, has called for a united struggle for the restoration of the territory\u2019s statehood and constitutional guarantees, stressing that it must be based on “consistency and credibility”, not “theatrics or optics”<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a media interview, Ruhullah Mehdi said credibility of the political leadership was being questioned by the people, adding that sustained and consistent efforts were essential for any meaningful movement.<\/p>\n
He said that without consistency, political actions would be reduced to theatrics. \u201cThe condition is that there should be sustainability and consistency. If there is no consistency, then there will be theatrics,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
“Do not try to fool people by sitting somewhere for a day. Make a roadmap. Reach out to the whole of Kashmir. Create a movement,” he said.<\/p>\n
Citing the example of Ladakh, Mehdi said Kashmir’s political leadership should learn how to fight unitedly for rights.<\/p>\n
He further said that if sincerity existed, all political parties should suspend their separate identities and unite on a single platform to pursue the restoration of rights taken away in 2019. \u201cIf everyone is sincere, all political parties should suspend their political identities and come together on a single platform. A democratic and peaceful movement should continue until the constitutional rights are restored,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Ruhullah also said he would be willing to resign from the Indian parliament if a common movement platform was formed. \u201cI will be the first one to resign from Parliament. Representatives should be chosen from a common movement platform rather than party platforms until our rights are restored,\u201d he said. “If parties are serious, they should keep electoral politics aside and focus entirely on the movement. People will only trust such efforts if they see sincerity and consistency,” he said.<\/p>\n
Notably, the National Conference on Wednesday announced it will hold a protest in New Delhi on the first day of Indian parliament’s Monsoon Session, pressing for restoration of IIOJK\u2019s statehood and constitutional guarantees.
