According to Kashmir Media Service, the bodies were found near Kharam Vaiphei village in Kangpokpi district on Wednesday after nearly 24 hours of coordinated search efforts involving around 450 personnel from the Manipur Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Assam Rifles, assisted by sniffer dogs and forensic teams. Police said an investigation into the killings is underway.<\/p>\n
The six men were among at least 48 civilians from the Naga and Kuki communities abducted on May 13 in Kangpokpi and Senapati districts amid escalating inter-community tensions.<\/p>\n
Authorities later secured the release of several hostages, including 28 abductees on May 15. Fourteen Kuki hostages were released on Tuesday by the United Naga Council and Naga civil society groups on \u201chumanitarian grounds\u201d.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, the bodies of the six men were found near the Kharam Vaiphei village in Kangpokpi district.<\/p>\n
Following the May 13 violence, the apex body of the Kuki tribes, Kuki Inpi Manipur, had accused the armed Naga outfit Zeliangrong United Front (Kamson faction) of involvement in the abductions.<\/p>\n
The developments come amid tensions between Kuki and Naga communities, particularly in Ukhrul district, where clashes erupted earlier this year.<\/p>\n
The fresh violence came against the backdrop of the ethnic clashes that broke out between the Hindu-majority Meitei and Christian-majority Kuki-Zo communities in the state in May 2023, leaving at least 260 persons, most of them Christians, dead and more than 59,000 persons displaced.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
