Bengaluru: A Muslim candidate in India has been denied an interview on the basis of his religion and the act of religious discrimination has sparked a huge debate on social media.

According to Kashmir Media Service, a law student has said that a Muslim candidate was denied an interview only on the basis of his religion . The incident has raised new questions about equal opportunities, fairness and impartiality in the recruitment process.

Mohammed Amin, a law student from Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka, in a social media post said that a friend of his had applied for a job and was expecting to go through the normal recruitment process, but was not allowed to attend the interview because of his religious identity.

Muhammad Amin also shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation on social media in which a recruiter wrote, \u201cHe is a Muslim, so we are not interested.\u201d

Muhammad Amin\u2019s social media post has sparked heated debate, with many users questioning whether a candidate\u2019s religious identity should influence recruitment decisions.

Users wrote that selection for jobs should be based solely on merit, educational qualifications and professional ability, and not on religion, caste or background.

Legal experts and commentators also say that equal opportunities are a fundamental principle of a democratic society, and if the issue of ignoring someone on religious grounds is proven to be true, it is a matter of great concern.
