Pune: A demolition drive against \u201cunauthorised\u201d religious structures in Maharashtra\u2019s Pune district has triggered concern after authorities demolished several mosques.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, the authorities had issued notices in April 2025 to 31 religious structures, including 18 mosques, terming them unauthorised constructions.<\/p>\n

Officials said 11 structures, including mosques, were removed during the latest operation in Chikhali-Kudalwadi locality.<\/p>\n

The action led to tension with reports of confrontations between locals and police, who registered cases against unidentified persons. Authorities said around 500 people have been identified in connection with the disturbance. According to available figures, 15 of the 31 structures have so far been demolished, including seven mosques.<\/p>\n

Muslim organisations and mosque committees have approached the Maharashtra Waqf Board against the notices. Raza Masjid Trust President Niyaz Siddiqui said the Waqf Board issued an interim stay on demolition of certain structures and fixed the next hearing for 24 June.<\/p>\n
