Islamabad Former President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sardar Masood Khan, has said that Pakistan has emerged as a principal global mediator after successfully earning the trust of both the United States and Iran during a highly complex diplomatic process that culminated in a landmark understanding between the two countries.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking in a media interview, Sardar Masood Khan, who also served as Pakistan\u2019s ambassador to the United States, China and the United Nations, described Islamabad\u2019s role in facilitating dialogue between Washington and Tehran as a significant diplomatic achievement rooted in long-standing relationships, careful balancing of regional interests, and sustained engagement with multiple regional and international stakeholders.<\/p>\n
He said Pakistan\u2019s credibility was strengthened by its ability to maintain trust simultaneously in the US, Iran, and key Gulf capitals, while avoiding alignment with any particular bloc.<\/p>\n
Sardar Masood Khan noted that Pakistan worked closely with regional partners, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, T\u00fcrkiye, Egypt, and China, while also receiving broader international support from countries across Europe, Asia, and other regions. This collective backing, he said, transformed the initiative into a global diplomatic endeavour rather than a unilateral mediation effort.<\/p>\n
He observed that the early phase of the understanding has already produced positive signals for global markets, including easing energy prices and improving investor sentiment. However, he cautioned that the real challenge begins with the upcoming 60-day negotiation phase, where complex technical and political issues must be resolved.<\/p>\n
Highlighting main challenges, he pointed to domestic political pressures in both Iran and the US, Israeli exclusion from the process and its potential disruptive posture, and the fragile post-conflict environment in the broader Middle East, particularly regarding Lebanon and ongoing military deployments.<\/p>\n
Concluding his remarks, Sardar Masood Khan said Pakistan\u2019s role has demonstrated that credible diplomacy, backed by trust, strategic patience and constructive engagement, can produce breakthroughs even in the most entrenched conflicts.
