Leh: The Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) and the Ladakh Gonpa Association (LGA) have announced a region-wide strike and peaceful rally on June 23 in Ladakh, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, to press for the resolution of key issues facing the region.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, LBA leaders said the concerns include the delay by India\u2019s Ministry of Home Affairs in issuing the minutes of the May 22 meeting held with representatives from the Leh Apex Body and the Kargil Democratic Alliance, as well as the controversial new liquor policy and other matters of public importance.<\/p>\n
They said a consultative meeting convened to discuss the proposed strike was attended by representatives of political parties, community organizations and various stakeholders, including the Hotel Association, Trade and Travel Alliance, and Travel Agents Association.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, participants expressed unanimous support for raising the issues through peaceful and democratic means.<\/p>\n
The two organizations appealed to residents, traders, hoteliers, transporters and employees to fully support the strike and participate in the rally in a peaceful disciplined manner.<\/p>\n
In a joint statement, the LBA and LGA said the protest aims to convey the collective voice of the people of Ladakh and seek timely action on issues carrying significant social, economic, cultural and administrative implications for the region.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Leh Apex Body said that it has not signed the minutes of the May 22 meeting with India\u2019s Ministry of Home Affairs because a key issue discussed during the talks was omitted from the official record.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
