Srinagar: The Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party has reaffirmed the Kashmiri people\u2019s right to self-determination and condemned the continuing human rights violations and political repression in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, DFP General Secretary Dr. Ghulam Rasool, in statement, said Jammu and Kashmir remains an internationally recognized disputed territory whose final status is yet to be determined under relevant UN Security Council resolutions.<\/p>\n
These resolutions uphold the inalienable right of Kashmiris to decide their political future.\u201cIndia, as a party to the dispute, bears responsibility to uphold international law, the UN Charter and human rights principles. Regrettably, current policies in IIOJK undermine these obligations and are seen as attempts to alter the disputed status through unilateral measures,\u201d the DFP said.<\/p>\n
The party expressed alarm over the deployment of nearly one million Indian troops, calling IIOJK one of the most militarized regions in the world. It said tens of thousands of Kashmiris have been killed in three decades, while countless others face injuries, enforced disappearances, arbitrary detentions and curbs on freedoms.<\/p>\n
The DFP voiced concern over the continued imprisonment of Hurriyat leaders Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Yasin Malik, Masarrat Aalam Butt, Aasiya Andrabi and thousands of youth, activists and pro-freedom leaders. It also condemned confiscation of properties, land seizures, demolition of homes, and dismissal of government employees without legal process, saying these measures have pushed thousands of families into economic insecurity.<\/p>\n
Urging the United Nations, European Union, Organization of Islamic Cooperation and international rights bodies to take urgent notice, DFP said the international community must ensure implementation of UN resolutions and protection of Kashmiri rights.\u201c<\/p>\n
DFP reaffirms that the just and peaceful struggle of Kashmiris for self-determination cannot be crushed through repression, imprisonment or economic coercion. Lasting peace in South Asia depends on resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute per UN resolutions and Kashmiri aspirations,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
