Islamabad : Vice Chairman of Tehreek-e-Shabab-e-Muslimeen Jammu and Kashmir Mushtaq Ahmed Butt has strongly condemned the serious human rights violations, extrajudicial killings, custodial deaths and ongoing oppression against Kashmiri Hurriyat leadership and activists in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mushtaq Ahmed Butt in a statement on the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, today, said Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir has been a victim of state oppression, fear and inhuman treatment for the past several decades. He said thousands of Kashmiri youth, elders, women and children are subjected to physical and mental torture in hundreds of detention centers, interrogation cells and torture chambers run by Indian forces and investigative agencies.<\/p>\n
He said as a result of these atrocities, countless Kashmiri youth suffered permanent disabilities, hundreds of families lost their loved ones, while thousands of people are still forced to live with the effects of physical and mental torture.<\/p>\n
Mushtaq Ahmed Butt said several international human rights organizations, journalistic institutions and observers have documented the violence, enforced disappearances, custodial deaths and human rights violations in occupied Kashmir in their reports, but unfortunately, the silence and double standards of world powers have protected India from accountability. This silence is encouraging further atrocities and oppression against the oppressed Kashmiri people.<\/p>\n
Mushtaq Ahmed Butt said dozens of prominent Kashmiri Hurriyat leaders and activists are currently imprisoned in various jails and detention centers in India in extremely unfavorable conditions. These include Hurriyat Conference Chairman Masarat Alam Butt, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Aasiya Andrabi, Molvi Bashir Irfani, Nayeem Khan, Ayaz Akbar, Ghulam Qadir Butt and countless other Hurriyat leaders.<\/p>\n
He said violence is an unacceptable crime in any civilized society and ignoring the atrocities committed against the Kashmiri people is a question mark on the credibility of the international human rights system.<\/p>\n
Hr said the international community should take effective and practical steps to protect the fundamental human rights, political freedoms and right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
