New Delhi: Gen Dhiraj Seth Tuesday took over as the 31st Chief of the Army Staff, succeeding Gen Upendra Dwivedi who superannuated after more than four decades of service.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, an Armoured Corps officer commissioned in December 1986, Gen Seth is the first from the corps to become Army Chief in over three decades. The last was Gen Shankar Roychowdhury who retired in September 1997.<\/p>\n

An NDA Khadakwasla alumnus, Gen Seth has commanded at every level, including an Armoured Regiment in the desert, an Armoured Brigade in the western theatre, and in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. As Lieutenant General, he commanded both South Western Command and Southern Command, a rare distinction.
