Jammu : In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), senior National Conference leader and Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary has urged the BJP-led Indian government to restore statehood to the territory, saying the elected government cannot function independently and effectively without it.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking to reporters in the Nowshera area of Rajouri district, Choudhary questioned why New Delhi had failed to fulfil its repeated promise to restore statehood despite the formation of an elected government.<\/p>\n
He reiterated that the ruling NC would stage a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on July 20 to press the BJP government to honour its commitment of restoring statehood. He said the party would urge to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to fulfil the assurance given to the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir before the 2024 Assembly elections.<\/p>\n
Choudhary said the restoration of statehood was essential to enable the NC-led government to function independently and effectively, address problems and hardships faced by people and accelerate the development process.<\/p>\n

Criticizing the BJP, Choudhary said the party had repeatedly promised to restore IIOJK\u2019s statehood but had failed to do so even 18 months after the formation of the elected government.<\/p>\n
He also called upon the people and journalists of the occupied territory to raise their voice in support of the restoration of statehood, describing it as a collective responsibility.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
