New Delhi: The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs led by Amit Shah has issued fresh directions mandating strict compliance with the protocol for singing and playing the Hindu songs Jana Gana Mana and the Vande Mataram across the country, without addressing concerns of religious minorities.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, in a communication, the Ministry directed all Chief Secretaries, UT Administrators and Central Ministries to circulate existing guidelines to ensure “uniform implementation” in all government institutions, offices and organizations.<\/p>\n

The Ministry specified occasions where these Hindu songs are mandatory and outlined that both must be played at the commencement and conclusion of official functions. It reiterated the prescribed order: Jana Gana Mana, followed by Vande Mataram, and State Song if applicable.<\/p>\n

The ministry also stressed strict adherence to the “officially approved script, text and pronunciation” of both, with authorised versions available on its website.<\/p>\n

Critics point out that the directive makes no mention of religious or minority sensitivities regarding compulsory singing, an issue that has repeatedly led to disputes in schools and institutions across India.
