According to Kashmir Media Service, Mohammad Farooq Rehmani in a statement issued in Islamabad said the 22 Kashmiris who were martyred outside the Srinagar Central Jail on 13 July 1931 were demanding the end of Dogra rule and the protection of basic human, civil and religious rights.<\/p>\n
According to him, the attitude of the then Dogra government towards the Muslim residents of the state was cruel and discriminatory. He said that 13 July 1931 is an important day in the history of Jammu and Kashmir.<\/p>\n
He lamented that the Indian ruling party, Bharatiya Janata Party, government objected to the tradition of commemorating this day by ending the official holiday, while according to them, different political parties have been observing Kashmir Martyrs’ Day on this occasion for the past several decades.<\/p>\n
Muhammad Farooq Rehmani added that after 1947, the issue of Jammu and Kashmir has become an international dispute, adding that according to the United Nations resolutions the right to self-determination is the basic demand of the Kashmiri people.<\/p>\n
He further said that during the last 35 years, a large number of Kashmiris were massacred due to Indian military domination and violence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
