According to Kashmir Media Service, India\u2019s Permanent Representative lauded the UPR, Special Procedures and Treaty Bodies but simultaneously complained of their alleged \u201clack of objectivity and selectivity.\u201d Delhi instead pushed for \u201cmeasurable impact\u201d and \u201ccapacity building\u201d rather than robust accountability.<\/p>\n
The defensive posture comes amid mounting international criticism of India\u2019s record. In 2025 alone, authorities carried out arbitrary demolitions of over 10,000 Muslim homes, businesses and mosques in Gujarat. Thousands of custodial deaths and extrajudicial \u201cencounter\u201d killings have disproportionately targeted Muslims in Uttar Pradesh and Assam.<\/p>\n
The Modi government also faced condemnation over the deletion of nearly 52 million voter names nationwide through controversial processes, with Muslims hit hardest \u2014 including 95% of deletions in one West Bengal constituency.<\/p>\n
Independent panels have warned of systematic persecution that may amount to crimes against humanity.
