Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah has urged the BJP-led Indian government to immediately restore the territory\u2019s statehood and revive the constitutional and democratic rights of its people.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, in a statement issued in Srinagar, Farooq Abdullah described India\u2019s August 5, 2019 decision to abrogate IIOJK\u2019s special status and bifurcate the territory into two Union Territories as a \u201chistoric mistake\u201d.<\/p>\n

He said reducing a historic state to a Union Territory marked a dark chapter in India\u2019s democratic history and dealt an unprecedented below to democratic principles.<\/p>\n

Farooq Abdullah reaffirmed the National Conference\u2019s commitment to securing the restoration of IIOJK\u2019s statehood and the revival of the constitutional and democratic rights of its people. He expressed confidence that, with the continued support of the people, the party would ultimately achieve these objectives.<\/p>\n
