New Delhi: Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has said that students who staged peaceful protests were subjected to violence, intimidation and harassment, while women protesters were forced to apologize after goons were sent to their homes.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, addressing a press conference with students from different Indian states at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, Rahul Gandhi said the students had raised their voices to defend the Constitution, the education system and the country’s future. He said the protesters remained peaceful, yet they were baton-charged, assaulted and continue to face harassment.<\/p>\n

Addressing the students, Rahul Gandhi said they had done nothing wrong and therefore had no reason to apologize to anyone.<\/p>\n

Holding Indian Home Minister Amit Shah accountable for the police crackdown, Rahul Gandhi said that if the action was taken without Shah’s knowledge, he had failed in his responsibilities. \u201cIf it was carried out on his orders, then he is directly responsible. In either case, the responsibility lies with Amit Shah,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
