Srinagar: The Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) has demanded expeditious consideration of bail for its President and Baramulla MP Er Rashid, saying his seven-year-long incarceration without conclusion of trial raises serious questions about constitutional rights, due process and democratic representation.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, AIP chief spokesperson Inam un Nabi, addressing a press conference in Srinagar, said Er Rashid was a democratically elected Member of Parliament representing a large section of the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).<\/p>\n
He said the prolonged incarceration of the elected representative had deprived his constituents of their democratic voice and representation. He urged Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant to consider Er Rashid’s bail plea with urgency and in accordance with constitutional principles, stressing that personal liberty and the right to a fair trial must be protected.<\/p>\n
Inam un Nabi said the continued detention of a sitting elected representative for seven years without conclusion of trial was a matter of serious concern and had affected the democratic rights of thousands of voters in the occupied territory.<\/p>\n
The AIP spokesperson also referred to proceedings before the Patiala House Court on July 6, 2026, saying that Mohammad Yasin Malik had submitted an affidavit stating that the \u201cSheikh Abdul Rashid\u201d mentioned in an alleged email was not Engineer Rashid. He said the affidavit had been taken on record by the court and would be considered while passing orders on framing of charges.<\/p>\n
Inam maintained that the party was not seeking any special privilege for its president but equal treatment under law and protection of constitutional guarantees, including the right to life and personal liberty.<\/p>\n
He said prolonged incarceration without conclusion of trial not only affected Er Rashid’s personal liberty but also deprived his constituents of effective democratic representation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
