Washington: On the occasion of the Khalistan referendum held in the US state of Indiana, Sikhs announced to declare Shimla as the capital of the Democratic Republic of Khalistan. This place reminds Indians of a major diplomatic defeat in the past.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, Sikhs for Justice leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, while speaking at Indiana, said that the capital of the Democratic Republic of Khalistan will be Shimla. He said the Indian government is committing genocide of Sikhs and also released a map of Khalistan at the end of the referendum.<\/p>\n
Earlier, Pannu, while speaking at the Lahore Press Club, had said that he wants to establish Khalistan democratically. However, a defence force will also be formed in the name of Sikh Homeland Security. He said the Sikhs have the full legal right to defence.<\/p>\n
Shimla is a historical tourist destination. After the fall of Dhaka, negotiations were held here between Pakistan and India for the return of prisoners of war.<\/p>\n
As a result of these negotiations, the Simla Agreement was signed in July 1972. At that time, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was the president, who defeated Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in diplomacy. Indian analysts still acknowledge this.<\/p>\n
Under this agreement, about 93,000 prisoners and about 5,000 thousand square miles of territory that was occupied by India, were returned to Pakistan.<\/p>\n
Bhutto also took Benazir Bhutto, Pakhtoon politician Wali Khan and General Zia-ul-Haq (who was not the army chief at that time) with him for these negotiations. The Simla Agreement is still in force.<\/p>\n
According to Indian analysts, Bhutto won the Simla talks because India accepted almost all his demands.<\/p>\n
