Srinagar: Senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has strongly criticized the Indian authorities over his repeated house detention and restrictions on his religious activities, including delivering sermons and offering Friday prayers at Srinagar\u2019s historic Jamia Masjid, saying that the measures appear to be part of a deliberate state policy.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who was allowed by the occupation authorities to visit Jamia Masjid today after a gap of two weeks, said while addressing the Friday congregation that those imposing the restrictions perhaps did not understand the significance and history of the historic mosque.<\/p>\n

He said the pulpit of Jamia Masjid had played a vital role for generations in educating and guiding people and in shaping society along religious and moral lines.<\/p>\n

The Mirwaiz said the mosque had also served as a voice for the people during difficult times, highlighting their concerns and advocating their aspirations. He vowed to continue carrying forward the legacy of his forefathers despite the difficulties and restrictions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
