According to Kashmir Media Service, the protesters tried to march towards the state assembly, but the police stopped them by putting up barricades.<\/p>\n
They later presented a memorandum to the government officials demanding the withdrawal of the bill.<\/p>\n
A large number of men and women participated in the protest and expressed concern over the impact of the Uniform Civil Code on Muslim personal law.<\/p>\n
The protest took place a few hours after the BJP government introduced the UCC Bill 2026 in the state assembly. The bill was introduced in the assembly yesterday (Friday). On this occasion, opposition members protested vigorously, after which the proceedings of the house were adjourned indefinitely.<\/p>\n
The Rajasthan Muslim Forum criticized the bill, saying that it could disrupt religious practices and the protections granted to different communities under the Constitution.<\/p>\n
Forum member Advocate Sarwar Alam, while talking to media representatives, said the government is bringing an unconstitutional bill to target Muslim personal law and only Muslims are being targeted. This law is not uniform at all but goes against the religious freedom given in the Constitution, he added.<\/p>\n
It should be remembered that the BJP-ruled states are rapidly implementing the Uniform Civil Code, which is a cause of great anxiety for Muslims.<\/p>\n
Muslim organizations like the Muslim Personal Law Board believe that the Uniform Civil Code is not only against Shariah but also against the rights of minorities under the Constitution.<\/p>\n
