Srinagar: The shortage of qualified doctors and medical specialists in remote areas of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir remains a critical challenge, hampering equitable access to healthcare across the territory.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, the shortage was highlighted by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs in its assessment of the healthcare sector in IIOJK. The panel recommended expediting regular recruitment to bridge the gap and ensure adequate availability of medical professionals in underserved areas.<\/p>\n

The committee called for expansion of postgraduate medical education and specialist training, strengthening of the District Residency Programme and provision of suitable financial and career incentives for doctors serving in difficult areas.<\/p>\n

It also recommended improving digital health infrastructure, telemedicine networks and emergency medical services, particularly through reliable internet connectivity and continuous monitoring.<\/p>\n

The panel noted improvements in maternal and reproductive health indicators in IIOJK, including a Total Fertility Rate of 1.5 and near-universal institutional deliveries.<\/p>\n
