New Delhi: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has said that New Delhi has become the crime capital under the watch of Home Minister Amit Shah, following the killing of a Manipuri musician who was assaulted outside his residence in the capital.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, Manipuri musician C Vikram Singh, 54, died after he was assaulted by a group of delivery workers and dhaba staff outside his residence in Kilokari village on Monday. The incident reportedly occurred after he objected to their shouting and nuisance outside his home.<\/p>\n

In a post on X, Kharge described the killing as another horrifying reminder of what he called complete lawlessness under the BJP government. He said students were not safe, women faced atrocities every day, and people from Northeast India were subjected to discrimination. Dalits, Adivasis and minorities, he added, remained particularly vulnerable and insecure.<\/p>\n

Citing National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, the Congress president said crime levels in New Delhi had been rising every year. He also said the incompetence of the Modi government had forced people from Manipur to suffer both within and outside their home state.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader and former Assam Assembly Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia also questioned whether Delhi was safe for people from the Northeast, saying that those from the region often face racism and physical violence after moving to the capital for education and employment.<\/p>\n

When Crime Crosses Borders from India<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cIs Delhi really safe for the people of the Northeast?\u201d Saikia said in a social media post, describing Singh\u2019s death as \u201cnot just the murder of a renowned artist\u201d but a reflection of the lack of security for Northeasterners in Delhi.<\/p>\n

Saikia also questioned Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah over what he described the failure of the Delhi Police and administration to protect people from the Northeast.<\/p>\n

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaurav Gogoi also condoled Singh\u2019s death, sharing a tribute describing the musician as a humble person who had dedicated himself to music. \u201cThe entire Northeast prays for your family,\u201d Gogoi said, while seeking justice for Singh.<\/p>\n

Saikia demanded swift legal action and the harshest possible punishment for those responsible to send a strong message that violence against people from the Northeast would not be tolerated.<\/p>\n
