\nSrinagar: Indian police, acting under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government, have attached the properties of two Kashmiri activists in Kupwara district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir under the draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, police personnel, acting on the orders of Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, attached 15 kanals of agricultural land and two residential houses in the Kachama area of Kupwara district.<\/p>\n
Police claimed that the properties are registered in the names of activists Abdul Majid Qureshi and Parvaiz Ahmad Qureshi.<\/p>\n
Abdul Majid Qureshi\u2019s brother, Mustafa Qureshi, was killed by Indian forces, while Parvaiz Ahmad Qureshi\u2019s father, Mustafa Qureshi, was also a victim of Indian state terrorism in the occupied territory. Indian police said both Abdul Majid Qureshi and Parvaiz Ahmad Qureshi were involved in activities allegedly linked to anti-India activities in Kupwara district.<\/p>\n
The confiscations of lands, houses, shops and offices have been carried out by the Indian BJP government through police and investigative agencies, including the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) and Special Investigation Agency (SIA), along with the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).<\/p>\n
Indian authorities have also attached properties belonging to prominent Hurriyat leaders and organizations, including those associated with the late Syed Ali Gilani, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Aasiya Andrabi, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, Syed Yousuf Naseem, Shaikh Yaqoob and Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir.<\/p>\n
The headquarters of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference in Srinagar has also been confiscated. In addition, numerous residential houses, shops and commercial complexes have been demolished and blasted under similar pretexts. Educational institutions and schools operated by the Al Falah Trust of Jammu and Kashmir have also been attached and closed by the authorities under black \/repressive laws.<\/p>\n
\u201cDestroying homes, demolishing shops and confiscating properties will not subdue the Kashmiris\u2019 resolve for freedom,\u201d local political analysts said, urging the international community to take notice of India’s brutal and illegal actions in the disputed territory.<\/p>\n
Civil society members and human rights activists in Srinagar have described the property attachments as part of a broader strategy by the BJP-led Indian government to economically weaken Kashmiris and suppress their political aspirations concerning the Kashmir dispute.<\/p>\n
They said the confiscations are being carried out under brutal laws and have increased since the abrogation of occupied Jammu and Kashmir\u2019s special constitutional status in August 2019. They also pointed out the actions as part of a settler-colonial project aimed at altering the disputed region\u2019s demographics by displacing local Kashmiris and facilitating the settlement of non-locals, mostly Indian Hindutva ideological forces..<\/p>\n
