Jammu: Indian forces’ personnel have launched search operations at nearly a dozen locations across Poonch, Rajouri and Kathua districts of Indian illegally occupied in Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

According to Kashmir Media Service, personnel form the Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF) and police are jointly conducting searches in several villages and remote, densely forested areas of the three districts.

Indian officials claimed that the operations were launched following reports of suspicious movements in the areas.

In Poonch district, searches were going on in Upper Kasbalari, Theratopa, Nagal Gali, Kalaban and Patnateer areas in the Mendhar sector.

In Rajouri, operations were underway in Peer Khana, Potha Narota, Andh villages of Kalakote, as well as and Thanda Pani and Kansar in Sunderbani area, while in Kathua district, Indian forces were searching Panjwari, Kathera and adjoining areas.

Official said that the forces’ personnel were carrying out extensive searches in forested stretches and other vulnerable areas. They added no contact had been established with the suspected individuals so far, but forces were maintaining heightened vigilance and continuing coordinated operations.

The operations were going on till filing of this report.

Notably, Indian forces frequently conduct military operations across IIOJK, often citing so-called security concerns. Kashmir watchers and observers say such operations are aimed at suppressing political dissent, silencing Kashmiri voices and intimidating local residents in an effort to weaken support for Kashmiris’ legitimate demands for rights, particularly their UN-recognized right to self-determination.

During these operations, Kashmiri youth are often detained and interrogated at Indian police stations and army camps. Thousands of Kashmiris remain imprisoned in jails across India and IIOJK under draconian laws such as Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Public Safety Act (PSA).
