Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has called for the intervention by Indian Supreme Court over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to prevent the deletion of voters in the occupied territory.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, Abdullah said the SIR exercise across India is aimed at \u201ctampering with\u201d the electoral process and alleged that a similar exercise could be used in occupied Jammu and Kashmir to benefit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).<\/p>\n
Speaking after inaugurating an indoor gymnastics hall in Srinagar, he said the people of Kashmir had already experienced a similar exercise during delimitation.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have already been victims of this game. We have not forgotten the delimitation,\u201d Abdullah said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe purpose of the delimitation in J&K was to help the BJP and the same thing will happen in SIR as well. But I hope and think the proceedings in the Supreme Court, particularly on Form 6, will make it difficult for them to exclude people from the electoral rolls here,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The Election Commission of India (ECI) had earlier claimed that the declaration attached to Form 6 for the SIR of electoral rolls had been upheld by the Supreme Court. However, the poll panel later withdrew the declaration form from all states and Union Territories where the SIR had already been conducted, while keeping it unchanged in areas where the exercise was underway.<\/p>\n
The declaration form was introduced during the SIR conducted in Bihar ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections. It sought details of a new voter\u2019s parents or grandparents and their linkage to electoral rolls from the previous SIR conducted in 2002-03.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
