Detain several workers of AAC
Srinagar, May 20 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Indian police foiled a rally of workers of Jammu and Kashmir Awami Action Committee (AAC), headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, in Srinagar, today.
The police arrested several workers of the AAC when they tried to hold a rally in Rajouri Kadal area of old Srinagar city in connection with the Martyrdom Week.
The AAC spokesman in a statement in Srinagar strongly denounced the police action. He also condemned the puppet authorities for imposing restrictions in Srinagar to prevent people from conducting various programmes in connection with the Martyrdom Week and continued house arrest of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
It is to mention here that the Martyrdom Week, which commenced on May 16 and will continue till May 21, is being observed in the memory of prominent martyred Hurriyet leaders, Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq and Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone and the martyrs of Hawal.
Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq was shot dead by unidentified gunmen after barging into his residence in Srinagar on 21st May in 1990. On the same day, seventy mourners were killed when Indian troops opened indiscriminate fire his funeral procession in Hawal area of Srinagar. On the same day in 2002, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone was martyred by unknown attackers, when he was returning from addressing a gathering at Mazar-e-Shuhada in Srinagar.
