Mirwaiz forum denounces curbs, ban on Eidgah March

Srinagar, May 22(KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has strongly denounced the curbs imposed by the authorities to prevent the Eidgah march called by the joint resistance leadership terming the decision as the worst form of state repression.

The forum in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “Hurriyet expresses its gratitude to the people for their continuous love towards the great martyrs and their support to the movement.”

The march was announced by the joint resistance leadership to pay tributes to prominent liberation leaders, Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq and Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone on their martyrdom anniversaries.

A Hurriyet spokesman said, “Authorities once again resorted to their standard repressive response of imposing curfew and curbs and turning the entire downtown into a military fortress to foil the public participation in paying homage to the martyred leaders, the martyrs of Hawal and all other martyrs at the martyrs’ graveyard in Eidgah.”

“We strongly condemn the imposition of curfew and the action of the forces. Police also conducted a series of raids on the houses of AAC and Hurriyet leaders and activists during which dozens of leaders, workers and activists were detained,” he said.

Meanwhile, the spokesman also condemned the continued house detention of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Gilani, Mukhtar Ahmed Waza, Advocate Shahidul Islam, Advocate Yasir Dalal, and dozens of other leaders and activists.
