Srinagar, June 03 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, APHC General Secretary and the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), Shabbir Ahmad Shah has urged the United Nations to take practical steps for settlement of the lingering Kashmir dispute.
Shabbir Ahmad Shah in a statement issued in Srinagar said though the concern expressed by the UN over Kashmir is satisfactory but the World Body should rise above the rhetorical statements on Kashmir and take practical steps for its solution.
He said that the UN and world community had been witnessing the grave situation and continuous human rights violations by India in Kashmir for the last seven decades, there was a dire need to find a permanent settlement to the dispute than issuing statements.
“UN should look who is creating impediments in way of Kashmir resolution which is the root cause of continued tension between India and Pakistan at the Line of Control (LoC), political anarchy in region and unending bloodshed in the disputed territory,” he said.
Shabbir Shah said the people of Kashmir and Pakistan have always expressed seriousness in resolving the dispute but India on one hand is continuing with its policy of turning Kashmir into a slaughterhouse and on the other is jeopardising peace in the region.
“The people of India should act with wisdom and understand that Jammu Kashmir was an independent state even before the partition of India,” he said. He added though the UN has vindicated our stand that Kashmir is not part of India but unfortunately New Delhi continues its forcible and military occupation over the territory.
