Student killing leads to widespread protests

Thousands attend funeral of martyr student

Srinagar, June 07 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, anti-India protests, marked by shutdown and clashes, were held, today, against the killing of a 12th class student, Aadil Farooq Magray, by Indian troops in Shopian.

Indian troops used brute force and fired teargas shells on the protesters, mainly students, in Pampore, Tral, Pulwama and Handwara areas. Hundreds of students of Islamic University of Science and Technology, Awantipora, were subjected to brute force by the troops when they raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans marched on Srinagar-Jammu highway. The troops fired teargas shells and pellets on protesters in Pulwama, Namblabal and Pampore areas, critically injuring several persons including girl students. APHC leader, Yasmeen Raja’s car was damaged by the troops during her visit to hospital to enquire about the health of the injured people. Shopian witnessed complete shutdown against the killing of the youth. The mobile Internet services that were restored four days ago were again suspended in the territory.

The joint resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik in a statement called for shutdown and peaceful protests across the Kashmir Valley on Friday against the brutal killing of Aadil Ahmed Magray.

Meanwhile, thousands of people participated in the funeral of Aadil Farooq Magray, who was killed during firing by Indian troops on peaceful protesters in Ganowpora in Shopian, yesterday. He was laid to rest amidst wet eyes and anti-India sloganeering.

The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Gilani, Dukhtaran-e-Millat and the High Court Bar Association of occupied Kashmir in their separate statements strongly condemned the arbitrary and coercive raids conducted by Indian National Investigation Agency on the residences and offices of Hurriyet leaders and activists. Syed Ali Gilani said that despite Indian state terrorism the people of Kashmir would continue their freedom struggle.

APHC leader and Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement, Mir Shahid Saleem, while interacting with the party workers in Jammu said that the region was an inseparable part of the ongoing resistance movement. He said that the political affiliation of Jammu region had always been with the people of Kashmir who had never accepted illegal Indian occupation.

On the other hand, Indian troops in their fresh act of state terrorism martyred three more Kashmiri youth in Kupwara district, today. The troops killed the youth during a military operation in Machil area of the district.
