Srinagar, June 08 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the High Court has asked the authorities to consider shifting of pro-freedom leaders Masarrat Aalam and Aasiya Andrabi from Kot Balwal jail, Jammu, to a Kashmir jail.

The directive came after Masarrat Aalam’s counsel, Mian Tufail, told the court the lodging of a detainee away from his home goes against the judgment passed in the case of A K Roy.

In a separate petition, the High Court passed the similar order in which it asked the authorities to shift Aasiya Andrabi and her associate, Sofi Fehmeeda from Jammu’s Amphala jail to a jail in Kashmir.

Their Counsel Advocate Mian Abdul Qayoom argued that lodging the duo in a Jammu jail away from home goes against the orders of Indian Supreme Court.

The Court asked the authorities to consider shifting of senior Hurriyet leader and Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League Chairman, Masarat Alam Butt from Kot Balwal in Jammu to any jail in Kashmir.

The court also directed the authorities to allow the family members and his counsel to meet the detenue. The court admitted given the government two weeks for filing objections to it.
