Srinagar, June 11 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the joint resistance leaders, Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik have said that police authorities are subjecting civilians to worst treatment and their fundamental rights are being disregarded and trampled.

They in a joint statement on Sunday criticized the authorities for their rude and heartless approach against civilians and said that police were unnecessarily harassing and intimidating civilians on one pretext or the other.

Ridiculing the statement of IG police wherein he has said that it was a mock drill, the resistance leaders denounced the crackdown on civilians in Lal Chowk of Srinagar area, saying, “This is sheer lawlessness and illustrates the egoistic and autocratic behavior of the authorities”.

They said that unnecessary search operation had become a routine and order of the day for forces and police personnel. People are subjected to humiliation and forces, police and other agencies feel free and unaccountable for their misdeeds, they added.

Terming forces and police action as state terrorism, the leadership said that
uncalled search operations are unjustified and illogical.

Terming the varying statements of authorities, a brazen lie, the leaders said that different versions about the cordon and search operations in Lal Chowk were quite humiliating and while referring to statement of CRPF spokesman, said that it was strange that on one hand the police chief said that it was a drill while as the CRPF spokesman said, that they had inputs about the presence of ‘militants’ in the area.

“It testifies our claim that lawlessness rules the roost and territory is virtually reeling under martial law,” they said and appealed to human rights organizations to take cognizance of reports of harassment and atrocities being inflicted by forces against civilian population in nook and corner of the territory.
