Srinagar, June 12 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, on the 7th martyrdom anniversary of teenager Tufail Matoo, who was killed by Indian police, his father has pledged to continue their fight for justice.
Tufail Mattoo, a student of 12th class, was killed after being hit by a teargas shell fired by Indian police near Ghani Memorial Stadium in Srinagar in 2010 when he was returning home from tuition.
On Tufail’s 7th martyrdom anniversary, people from different walks of life participated in prayers at his grave in Martyrs Graveyard at Eidgah. “We observe this day with the hope that perpetrators of such crimes against humanity will be punished. We miss him (Tufail) a lot. Pain of his separation has strengthened our fight for justice,” Tufail’s father Muhammad Ashraf Matoo said in a media interview.
Tufail’s family is fighting for justice since 2010. “There was 36-day delay in filing the FIR. Then the formation of an enquiry commission, headed by retired Justice M.L Koul, took nearly four years to come up with a report,” Ashraf said.
Meanwhile, the Hurriyet leaders, Bilal Siddiqee, Zamrooda Habib, Yasmeen Raja, Farida Behanji, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Shabbir Ahmad Dar, Muhammad Iqbal Mir, Muhammad Ahsaan Untoo, Imtiyaz Ahmad Reshi and Ghulam Nabi War in their statements paid glorious tributes to Tufail Matoo on his martyrdom anniversary.
